Hello Keatsway Families!

We are well into February and have a very busy month ahead of us with our Move-A-Thon to kick us off next Wednesday.  As a school, one of our focuses is on the well-being of our students and our staff.  On Thursday February 22nd, we will be holding a Wellness Day.  This is a day where staff and students participate in activities that promote mindfulness and well-being.  We are looking for volunteers to help us run some of our stations.  If you would be willing to help out for the day or half a day, please email me at penny_miller@wrdsb.ca.  Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again for all your support – we truly have an amazing community!

Keatsway Musical is in the works!

Shiver me timbers, matey!  This year we are proud to present Pirates Two! Mr. McIntyre and the cast have begun rehearsing. Our primary and junior choirs will be performing in the Musical.  This is a wonderful opportunity, so we encourage all interested students to get involved.

News from School Council

Amazing, Incredible, Exciting Playground News!!

This past January, we were contacted by our anonymous donor in regards to their matching donation. They were so inspired by all of our hard work and how close we were to reaching our goal, they decided to give us the full $25,000 donation!! This means we have raised over $71,000!! Words cannot express how thankful and appreciative we are for this donation and the generosity & kindness of this donor. We believe that every act of kindness creates a ripple with no end and we think the best way to thank our donor is to demonstrate this. In the coming weeks, we will be working on a school wide thank you project along this theme. To help prepare for this project, please take a few minutes, as a family, to talk about the idea of paying it forward and things your child, or you as a family, could do to pass the kindness on. No act of kindness is too small. This donation, along with so many other generous donations and lots of hard work fundraising, means we are going ahead with the plan to build this Spring. We do have a little more fundraising to do, but we are confident we can reach our goal! We have two more fundraisers planned for February and are optimistic we will fill our thermometer by the middle of the month!

Book Fair is here! Feb. 7-9

Keatsway is holding a Scholastic Book Fair in the Library Feb 7-9.  The Book Fair is open Wednesday – Friday from 3:30 -5:00 and on both nutrition breaks on Thursday and Friday.  All profits from the Book Fair will go towards the new playground. Thanks for your support.

Corporate Donations

To help us reach our goal and to include the wider community, we have launched a corporate donation campaign. Businesses will receive a charitable tax receipt, as well as a variety of “recognition acknowledgements” to show our gratitude for your donation. If you are interested in more information, or have suggestions of companies we should contact, please email keatswayschoolcouncil@gmail.com

Move-a-thon!

A celebration is happening at Keatsway on Wednesday February 14th! Information is coming home regarding our Moveathon and we are excited for this to be our final fundraiser for the playground. It is our hope that this fundraiser will put us over the top of the thermometer and we will be able to celebrate our new playground together! So bring in your loonies, toonies, or larger donations and help us reach our goal!

Pizza Mondays

We will continue to serve pizza each Monday for grade 1-6 students. Cheese, vegetable or pepperoni pizza are available for $2.00/slice at first break each Monday. The week of Family day, pizza day will occur on Tuesday February 20th.

School Council Meeting – Date change!

All Keatsway parents and caregivers are invited to join us for our School Council Meeting on Thursday February 22nd at 6:30pm in the school library. Free babysitting is available for all council meetings.

Family Science Night

With less than 4 weeks to go until Family Science Night, this is a great time to start working on those projects!  This is a voluntary and non-competitive science fair, open to all Keatsway students.  Don’t forget to register and pick-up your display board on February 15, 21 or 22, before or after school (9:00-9:30 am or 3:40-4:00 pm). Please bring your completed registration form and $2 fee, and have a plan for how you will get the large display board home. A full information package for participants is available for download from the school’s web site (https://kea.wrdsb.ca/), or for pick-up at the office. Registration forms were sent home in January, but if you need another copy, that may also be downloaded from the web site or picked at the office. Any questions may be directed to parent volunteers Sheila Vardy (srvardy@gmail.com) or Rebecca Steinmann (rebeccasteinmann@gmail.com).

Volunteers Needed: We are looking for volunteer Science Professionals (parents to engage the children in conversations about their projects) on Wednesday, February 28th 3:40 – 4:30 pm(approximately). Please contact Sheila if interested: srvardy@gmail.com

Volunteers are needed to help with registration sessions on

  • Thursday, Feb. 15th, 9:00-9:30 am and 3:40-4:00 pm
  • Wednesday, Feb. 21st, 9:00-9:30 am and 3:40-4:00 pm
  • Thursday, Feb. 22nd, 9:00-9:30 am and 3:40-4:00 pm

Please contact Rebecca (rebeccasteinmann@gmail.com) if you can help for one or more of these sessions.

We will also need help to set up tables on Tuesday, Feb. 27th (afternoon) and to clean up and stack tables after the open house on Wednesday, Feb. 28th (~7:15-7:45pm).  Please let Sheila or Rebecca know if you can help with either of those jobs.

Have a wonderful February!
