Important Information for families about the SAFE WELCOME PROGRAM!

Beginning Monday, January 5th, Keatsway will have full implementation of the Safe Welcome Program with full locking of all doors. All visitors, volunteers, parents, vendors; WRDSB staff to elementary schools will access the main front doors to the school using an intercom system. There is one button for the main office and one for Extended Day.

Please read this information carefully!

Visitors, volunteers and parents will all have to enter the school via the main doors. Please understand that staff will not allow you to enter the school with your children at any other doors and you will be redirected to the front door. If you need to come into the school, buzz the main office and the door will be opened for you. Parents will not be able to walk through the halls of the school as we need to monitor all people in the building.

ARRIVING LATE

  • If you arrive during O’Canada, you will not be let in until after announcements are finished.
  • If your grade 1-6 child is late, buzz the main office and your child must come to the office to get a late slip before going to class. You do not need to come in with your child, unless you are a Kindergarten parent.
  • Kindergarten parents bringing a student late will need to bring their child in, sign them in and/or get a late slip. If the Kindergarten class is outside, you will need to take your child to the back playground, find the teacher and give the late slip to the teacher outside. This will ensure all students get there safely.

NO SECRETARY DURING SECOND BREAK

  • During Second Nutrition Break 1:30-2:10 pm while the secretary is not in the office, students answer the phones. The students are not allowed to open the door. Please be patient while they notify an adult to let you in.

AT END OF DAY

  • At the end of the day, it is very important that you have a meeting place established with your child(ren). Students have a specified door for their dismissal. Adults are discouraged from congregating at the doors as this creates confusion for our kindergarten bus students and for dismissal. To ensure the safety of all students, students are expected to go straight home at the 3:40 dismissal.

  • If your child is in Extended Day or the YMCA Youth Development Program, please enter via the front doors using the Extended Day buzzer. Staff will allow access only to parents with children in the programs. On days that the Youth program or Extended Day program are outside, the staff will post a sign redirecting you to the back of the school.

It is recognized that having all school doors locked will be new for our school community. Thank you to our students, parents, staff and visitors for collaboratively working together as this initiative is implemented at our school.
