How Do I Find Out What Class My Child is in?

Our Kindergarten teachers will contact all families during the week of August 30th with more information (eg. Where to line up!)

What Does Kindergarten Look Like?

  • Each Kindergarten class consists of both Junior (JK) and Senior (SK) students.

  • School starts at 9:20am and ends at 3:40pm and is a full day.

  • Classrooms consist of several educators; a combination of both Teachers and Early Childhood Educators.

What will dropping off and picking up my child look like?

  • A parent or caregiver must remain with their child in the morning line up until a teacher is present.  We need to have “hand-to-hand”  transfer between guardian and educator before and after school (unless they are a bus student)
  • Drop off is 9:20 am and after school pick up is 3:40 pm.
  • Students will have a designated line to enter the school (more information to follow!)

What about the Bus?

For eligible bus students, you will receive transportation from STSWR directly mid-August. Please go to www.stswr.ca for any inquiries and further helpful information.  Students will be supervised and brought into school by an educator.

What is School Day?

  • School day is our primary method of home / school communication.

  • Click Here for further information on SchoolDay.

  • If your family is new to Keatsway (no older siblings) please contact the school office to get access (on the week of August 30th).

I need care before and/or after school, what is available?

  • Keatsway has an Extended Day program  to cover before and/or  after school care.

  • The attached video will give you an idea of what an Extended Day Program looks like.

  • The following link will provide you with further information about Before and After school programming.

My child is sick or has an appointment, what do I need to do?

  • If your child  will be absent from school, please phone or email the Keatsway attendance line to report the absence.
  • Attendance:

  • Please ensure we always have the most recent contact information and have alternate contacts available if your child needs to be picked up due to illness or injury.

  • A phone call home will be made to ensure the safety of your child if no absence has been reported.

What will my child need to bring to school?

Shoes

  • Your child will need both indoor and outdoor shoes.

  • Have your child practice putting on and taking off their shoes.

  • No laces please, unless they can tie themselves.

Backpack

  • Make sure your child has a large enough pack back to hold their lunch box, extra clothing and items they may bring home from school.

“Just In Case” Clothing

  • Please include an extra set of clothing , in a labelled Ziplock bag, for your child in their backpack to leave at school.

Weather Appropriate Clothing

  • Please keep in mind that your child will be spending time outdoors.

  • Make sure  they are dressed for the weather.

  • Labels

  • We appreciate when items are labelled.  This allows us to get your items back to you.

How can I prepare my child for school?

Help your child with the transition to school by:

  • Talking about school in a positive manner and explaining what it might look like.

  • Read books to your child about school

  • Offer experiences where your child plays and works with other children and adults.
  • Start each day with a healthy breakfast.

  • Make sure your child gets to bed early!  They need 10 to 12 hours of sleep every night.

  • Teach your child to take care of their personal needs ( e.g, using the washroom, hanging up their coat and cleaning up their toys)

  • Teach your child to ask for help when needed.

When will my child eat lunch and what should I pack?

  • Your child will have 2 nutrition breaks:  11:20 – 12:00 pm and 1:30 – 2:10 pm .

Things to consider:

  • A reusable water bottle

  • Easy to open containers

  • Dividing food into first and second break

  • Healthy nutritious snacks

  • Labels on all containers (tops, bottoms, forks, spoons)

  • All garbage will be returned in lunch bags ( boomerang lunch)
